FACT CHECK: Photo Showing Gal Gadot Enlisting In The IDF Is Not From 2023

A photo shared on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, allegedly shows actress Gal Gadot enlisting in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to serve in the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Verdict: False

The image of Gadot is not recent. It was taken when Gadot was drafted into the IDF in 2005.

Fact Check:

Since the Israel-Hamas conflict began last month, Gadot has shown support for Israel, saying, “I stand with Israel you should too,” according to USA Today. Other celebrities such as Kylie Jenner, Nina Dobrev and U2 have also taken to social media to support Israel, the outlet reports.

The X post purports actress Gal Gadot has enlisted in the IDF amidst the Israel-Hamas conflict. The post shares a photo of Gadot saluting the camera while carrying a large backpack, standing in front of a sign written in Hebrew.

“Famous Israeli actress #GalGadot who played Wonder Woman in the Hollywood movie turns up at for army service for her nation,” the post reads.

This photo is not recent, however. Jewish News posted the image in 2019 alongside the caption “Gal in the army aged 18.” It was also posted to Reddit, which also claimed she was 18 at the time.

Gadot, who grew up in Israel, served two years in the military as a combat fitness instructor, according to the Times of Israel. Contrary to the Jewish News article and Reddit, Gadot was actually 20 at the time, as she served in the military from 2005 to 2007, according to Brittanica. The page also says that Gadot is 38 and was born on April 30, 1985.

There are no credible news reports about Gadot recently joining the IDF. (RELATED: Does Image Show U.S. Troops On The Ground With The IDF?)
