Verdict: Misleading
The tanks shown appear to be from 2022, not 2024. The video was likely taken in Luhansk, not Kursk. The video likely shows Russian tanks, not Ukrainian.
Fact Check:
Russia has begun a counterattack to dislodge Ukrainian troops from Kursk, retaking a few villages, but has not made massive gains, according to CNN.
Social media users are sharing a video of tanks, claiming it shows Ukrainian tanks in Kursk. One user wrote, “Kursk Direction
Cemetery of Ukrainian tanks in the Kursk region.”
This claim is misleading. Through a reverse image search, it appears that the video of the tanks was taken in 2022, not 2024. One of the tanks in the image matches one in WarSpotting’s archive (WarSpotting is a website that tracks Russian losses). It shows a Russian T-80 BVM from Russia’s 3rd Army Corps in the Luhansk Oblast.
One image of the T-80 BVM appears to show the same row of trees that is in the video. Another image shows other tanks with the same row of trees in the background.
Buschlaid, an account that contributes to Armada Rotta, wrote in a Sept. 14 tweet that the marks do not match recent Ukrainian markings.
Russian tank column from the second half of 2022… the tanks don’t even have recent markings, lmao.

Ukrainian tanks operating in Kursk do appear to have a triangle marking, similar to the one seen in the video, but they lack the circle that is in the middle of said triangle.
