Fetterman pays George Santos to give advice to Sen. Menendez on how to deal with ‘the haters’

Former New York GOP Rep. George Santos is offering his advice to embattled Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) as he faces his own calls for resignation, and the former congressman is being paid by Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) to do so.

Since being removed from office on Friday, Santos has turned to his next career venture: starring as a “former congressional icon” selling videos on Cameo, a website that allows users to purchase personalized video messages from celebrities. Shortly after Santos launched his account on Monday, Fetterman purchased one of the videos to be addressed to Menendez using funds from his campaign account, a spokesperson for Fetterman told the Washington Examiner.

The video is addressed to a “Bobby from Jersey,” a reference to Menendez and the pair of criminal indictments charging the Democratic senator with bribery and violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act. Santos returned the request for the video after Fetterman’s team spent roughly $343 for the missive, according to Business Insider.

Santos currently charges $200 for a personalized video message, but Fetterman’s was more expensive once it factors in taxes, fees, and an additional charge for delivering the message within 24 hours, according to the outlet.

“Hey, Bobby! Uh, look, I don’t think I need to tell you, but these people that want to make you get in trouble and want to kick you out and make you run away, you make them put up or shut up,” Santos said in the message. “You stand your ground, sir. And don’t get bogged down by all the haters out there. Stay strong. Merry Christmas!”

Fetterman posted the Cameo to his X account, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, making it obvious just who the “Bobby” in question is.

“I thought my ethically-challenged colleague [Bob Menendez] could use some encouragement given his substantial legal problems,” he wrote. “So, I approached a seasoned expert on the matter to give ‘Bobby from Jersey’ some advice.”

The message comes after Menendez pleaded not guilty to a slew of federal charges related to accusations he conspired to act as a foreign agent on behalf of the Egyptian government as well as allegations he violated the Foreign Agents Registration Act while he was serving as the head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The charges have prompted several Senate Democrats to call on Menendez to resign, which the three-term incumbent has refused to do. Fetterman has been among the most vocal voices calling on Menendez to step down from office, especially after the historic ouster of Santos from the House last week.

“Sen. Menendez needs to go, and if you are going to expel Santos, how can you allow somebody like Menendez to remain in the Senate?” Fetterman told ABC’s The View on Friday. “He has the right for his day in court and all that, but he doesn’t have the right to have those kinds of votes and things that — that’s not a right. And I think we need to make that kind of decision to send him out.”

Menendez has remained adamant he will not step down and has even suggested he may run for reelection next year. The New Jersey senator hit back at Fetterman for paying for the video, telling reporters Monday evening that he didn’t “think Mr. Clickbait’s donors would appreciate him enriching George Santos.”

“I’m surprised he didn’t ask his parents for the money,” Menendez said, referencing reports that the Pennsylvanian senator received money from his parents till his 40s.
