Florida State University Students Told to Shelter in Place Due to Active Shooter – Update: Six Injured, Suspect in Custody

Possible FSU shooter apprehended by law enforcement

Update: Six people were injured and one suspect is in custody after a mass shooting at Florida State University.

Police responded to an active shooter situation at Florida State University’s Tallahassee campus on Thursday shortly after noon ET.

Law enforcement appears to have apprehended the shooter in a clip circulating on X:


At approximately 12:40 pm ET, the university’s official emergency notification page announced in an Emergency Message for the Tallahassee Campus that police were responding to an active shooter.

Early reporting on the situation showed police running into the campus in tactical gear with weapons drawn at the intersection of Tennessee Street and Woodward Avenue:

Per ABC:

A shooting has taken place at Florida State University in Tallahassee, according to law enforcement sources.

Police are responding to the scene, which is near the Student Union, according to an FSU Alert, which had advised students to continue to shelter in place due to reports of an active shooter.

The FBI is assisting authorities at the university, an agency spokesperson told ABC News.
