Food stamps: October SNAP payments for Hawaii worth up to $1,691 end tomorrow
October 04, 2023 05:55 PM
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will end payments for Hawaii residents for the month of October on Thursday.
Maximum allotments increased for all 50 states and Washington, D.C., Guam, and the Virgin Islands in August 2022 due to cost-of-living adjustments. In Hawaii, the maximum payments increased substantially from 2020. Alaska and Hawaii are the only two U.S. states that receive different maximum payments than the other 48.

In the Aloha State, a household of one can receive a maximum payment of $538. A household of four can receive as much as $1,794, and a household of eight can receive up to $3,230. For each additional household member, the program includes a maximum of $404.
SNAP payment distribution began in Hawaii on Oct. 3 and will end on Thursday. A household’s specific payment arrival date depends on the first letter of the last name associated with the SNAP account. Letters A-I received their payments on Tuesday, and letters J-Z will receive their payments on Thursday.
Those who become eligible for SNAP outside of the Oct. 3-5 window or after their last name has passed will still collect payments for October and will not need to wait until November.

Eligible SNAP households will receive their payments via a prepaid electronic benefit transfer card. The EBT card works similarly to a debit card and can be used at participating locations, such as farmer’s markets, grocery stores, and online retailers. EBT cards in Hawaii can also get families discounted or free admission into museums, theme parks, zoos, aquariums, and other places.
