The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will begin sending out October payments to eligible Pennsylvania recipients in five days.

Pennsylvania SNAP recipients begin receiving food stamps on the 3rd of the month, and payments are disbursed until the 14th of the month. Payments are sent out to households based on the last digit of the case number associated with SNAP.

SNAP-eligible households of one can receive a minimum of $23 and a maximum of $281, and a household of four can collect up to $939. A household of eight can receive up to $1,691. Households with more than eight members can collect up to $211 in additional SNAP benefits.

Around 1.84 million people, or 14% of the Pennsylvania population, receive SNAP benefits. The average payment per household member per month is $182.

Food stamps are reloaded each month onto an electronic benefits transfer card, which works like a debit card. Recipients can use the money at participating grocery stores and farmers markets, as well as some online retailers.

Fresh produce items and other groceries can be purchased, as well as plants and seeds to grow food. Alcohol, tobacco products, and prepared foods cannot be purchased using SNAP benefits.

If a recipient is homeless or unable to cook, SNAP benefits can be used at some participating restaurants in the state. Some Meals on Wheels kitchens also accept food stamps.
