Food stamps: Payment dates for February SNAP benefits

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will start sending its February round of payments to recipients in three days.

SNAP benefit distribution follows the same payment schedule from month to month, with the exact dates varying from state to state. Some states issue all of their food stamps in one day or over the course of three days, while others continue to send out payments for the majority of the month.

Payments are distributed based on a household’s Social Security number, birth date, case number, or last name. The method of distribution also varies by state.

Typically, states with higher poverty levels will see larger numbers of SNAP benefit recipients. The amount an eligible household receives will vary by state and depends on income levels and state requirements.

For all states except Alaska and Hawaii, a maximum monthly SNAP benefit for a household of one is $291, a household of five can receive a maximum of $1,155, and a household of eight can collect a maximum of $1,751. For each additional person, a household can receive a maximum of $219. Those amounts are based on the recent cost-of-living adjustments for 2023-24.
