Former assistant US attorney says Hunter situation will hurt Joe Biden

Former Assistant U.S. Attorney Andy McCarthy said the situation with Hunter Biden could prove disastrous for President Joe Biden.

In an appearance on Fox News, McCarthy reacted to former White House press secretary Jen Psaki’s comments that Hunter Biden speaking publicly wasn’t helping anyone. He agreed that Joe Biden’s legal and political strategies had collided.

“Yeah, I think they’ve already collided,” McCarthy said. “I mean, the time to worry about what Jen Psaki is talking about was before Hunter got indicted when they were trying to make that whole case go away. But now, obviously, he’s indicted in not one but two cases. So, you know, he’s going to be out there publicly, as is his lawyer, speaking. And that’s going to be excruciating for the president.”

The implications of the case could shake Joe Biden’s entire presidency, he asserted, referring to reports from the Washington Post and Wall Street Journal that he could be affected by wider corruption issues.

“And now this report, what astonished me about it is not just the details,” he said. “This is a 4,000-word report, which means that they spent weeks on it. They could have dropped it at any time. And it dredges up stuff that’s been kind of vaguely known for years and that Joe Biden must have thought that he had, you know, survived that long ago. And here it is again, right at a time when a lot of top Democrats are saying, you know, it may be time for him to get out.”

Despite questionable approval ratings and concerns over his age, the Democratic Party has largely united around the incumbent president, with most potential rivals swearing off a presidential run in 2024.
