Former Florida GOP chairman criticizes RNC members for allowing Trump’s takeover – Washington Examiner

Former Republican Party of Florida Chairman Al Cardenas blasted Republican National Committee members for allowing former President Donald Trump to take over the party’s organization.

“RNC fired 90 people — not many more now work there; is moving its headquarters to Palm Beach; its now run by D Trump’s daughter in law; in essence it has become an asset less shell while MAGA runs GOP from Trump’s PACS so he can use those funds as he pleases,” Cardenas wrote on X on Wednesday.

Cardenas served as vice chairman and then chairman of the Republican Party of Florida and was an RNC member.

“If you are a member of the RNC (as I was) what are you doing? You have a responsibility to the organization you were sworn in to be a member of — your silence and inaction is scandalous and you are equally to blame,” Cardenas said.

Cardenas’s statement on social media was in response to a post about the RNC bringing on Christina Bobb, a Trump attorney and former correspondent for the One America News Network, as senior counsel for election integrity.

The RNC voted on Friday to select Trump’s picks to change the organization’s leadership. North Carolina Republican Party Chairman Michael Whatley will replace Ronna McDaniel as chairperson, and Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump will serve as co-chairwoman. The former president also pushed for his campaign operatives Chris LaCivita and James Blair to take on senior positions at the RNC. On top of a change in leadership, dozens of lower-ranking officials, including state directors, were terminated or instructed to reapply for their roles at the organization, according to multiple news outlets

Some RNC members think its campaign arm should assist the former president in paying his legal bills, with Lara Trump agreeing. Donald Trump faces 85 felony counts in four criminal cases in Washington, D.C., Florida, New York, and Georgia.

The Washington Examiner reached out to the RNC for comment.
