A former Florida nurse who admitted to sexually abusing her teenage stepson was sentenced to two years in prison, the New York Post reported.
Alexis Von Yates, 35, also received 200 hours of community service and was ordered to pay fines and court fees after pleading no contest to lewd and lascivious battery under a plea deal, the Post reported Wednesday. She was initially charged with sexual battery on a minor in her custody, Court TV reported. (RELATED: ‘Act Of Terror’: Man Allegedly Rams Vehicle Into FBI Pittsburgh Gate, Bureau Launches Manhunt)
Prosecutors said the victim’s family agreed to the plea deal so he would not have to testify in court while undergoing mental health treatment.
Court documents obtained by news.com.au say the incident occurred in July 2024 while the 15-year-old was visiting his father’s Florida home. After putting her two children to bed, Von Yates stayed in the living room with her stepson while his father was at work. The two allegedly vaped, played video games and watched movies together.
Around 1 a.m., Von Yates allegedly “seduced” the minor, telling the teen she was sexually frustrated because “she had not had sex in two weeks and she was on her period,” according to his statement to police. She added that she wished he were 18 before removing her clothes and initiating sexual contact, the records say. His father returned home to find them still on the couch.
Von Yates’ nursing license was suspended following the incident, CNY Central News reported in April. The teen also told police she had made sexual jokes in the week leading up to the assault.
At her Tuesday sentencing, the victim’s mother called Von Yates an “incestuous pedophile” and a “coward” who showed no remorse for her “despicable actions,” the Post reported. She said the abuse has damaged her son’s relationship with his father, who has not spoken to him since.
Von Yates was also ordered not to have any contact with her stepson, the Post reported.
