Former Student Allegedly Goes On Stabbing Spree

A former student allegedly stabbed three staff members at a Torrance school Monday morning before being taken into custody.

The attack occurred at approximately 8:15 a.m. at the Switzer Learning Center on Amapola Court, according to the Torrance Police Department in a press release. The suspect allegedly stabbed three staff members and attempted to stab a fourth before fleeing the scene.

Two victims were quickly transported to Harbor General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A third victim received treatment on scene from the Torrance Fire Department. (RELATED: REPORT: Student At Middle School Allegedly Gets Stabbed, Police Arrest A Mom)

Officers apprehended the suspect without further incident. During the arrest, the suspect made statements indicating he had placed two pipe bombs near 208 Street and Amapola Avenue, according to police.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad responded to investigate the threat. The bomb squad located two devices and determined they were incendiary devices, not pipe bombs as the suspect claimed. Both devices were rendered safe.

Police later confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public. The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues.

Around 3 p.m., Redondo Beach police investigated something connected to the stabbing near Dominguez Park at 190th Street and Flagler Lane, according to CBS Los Angeles. Police said there was no threat to the public.

The Torrance Police Department thanked the community and assisting agencies for their prompt response.
