Former Trump official launches multimillion-dollar ad campaign in battleground state for Senate seat – Washington Examiner

Residents of Nevada, a key battleground state that may determine if Republicans gain the majority in the next Senate, will see a multimillion-dollar ad campaign for GOP candidate Jeff Gunter that will air in major television markets such as Reno and Las Vegas.

Gunter, the former ambassador to Iceland in the Trump administration, purchased $3.3 million in television, radio, texting, and digital advertising ahead of the state’s June 11 primary.

“We have people pouring over our border,” Gunter told Fox News Digital. “We have kids dying of fentanyl. We have crime in the streets. We have chaos around the world internationally. … Can I just sit back at home and do nothing given the depth and breadth of experience and who I am? And the answer is absolutely not.”

The battle is on, as Gutner looks to knock out incumbent Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV), who is serving her first term.

“When people look to Jacky Rosen — rubber stamp Rosen, 93% voting supporting Joe Biden … that’s not good for Nevada,” Gunter said. “It’s not good for America. That voting creates the inflation that we’ve had, creates the instability around the world, creates wars that are just endless, whether it’s in Ukraine or the Middle East.”

In one of his ads, Gunter clings to being a Trump ambassador who fought against China. He supports being praised as “110% pro-Trump” and a candidate running on the “America First” agenda. While relying heavily on his ties to the former president, the dermatologist has yet to receive his endorsement.

His main Republican primary opponent is former Army officer Sam Brown, who has received the endorsements of the National Republican Senatorial Committee and Gov. Joe Lombardo (R-NV). The governor’s endorsement of Brown is a blow to Gutner and other Republicans in the race, including retired Lt. Col. Tony Grady and former state Assemblyman Jim Marchant.

Gunter dismissed Lombardo’s endorsement of Brown, referring to the governor as a RINO, or Republican in name only.

“The good news is, the MAGA movement sees right through the fake supporters and like I told President Trump last night, I’ll be his closest ally in the U.S. Senate,” Gunter told the Las Vegas Review Journal last month.

Gunter has been called out for his support of a pride group while participating in the Reykjavik Pride Parade in 2019. However, he said that his participation in those events were part of his duties as a U.S. ambasador.
