Fresh round of celebrities call for Biden to step down – Washington Examiner

President Joe Biden is bleeding support from Tinseltown as a growing number of Hollywood celebrities are asking him to step aside from the 2024 race.

The calls for Biden to leave office have grown exponentially since his performance at the first presidential debate, which many considered to be a weak showing from the president. As such, many are suggesting Biden be swapped out with a different candidate, with some polling data indicating Vice President Kamala Harris could beat former President Donald Trump in a possible matchup.

Here are the latest celebrities to ask Biden to step aside ahead of the November election:

George Clooney

Actor George Clooney is perhaps the biggest celebrity to ask Biden to call it quits, writing in an op-ed that Biden is unable to win the battle against time and is no longer “the Joe Biden of 2020.”

The publishing of the op-ed comes only about a month after Clooney hosted a fundraiser for Biden’s campaign. The fundraiser also featured actress Julia Roberts, actor Jack Black, and several other celebrities, and raised $28 million.

Rob Reiner

The director of iconic films such as The Princess Bride and When Harry Met Sally has also suggested Biden step aside, referencing how Clooney “expressed what many of us have been saying.” A frequent critic of Trump, Reiner argued that “Democracy is facing an existential threat” in the election, and the Democratic Party needs “someone younger to fight back.”

My friend George Clooney has clearly expressed what many of us have been saying. We love and respect Joe Biden. We acknowledge all he has done for our country. But Democracy is facing an existential threat. We need someone younger to fight back. Joe Biden must step aside.…

On Monday, Reiner stated Biden should make public appearances in the same way he appeared on his Morning Joe interview, as that would “shut up people like me” who want him replaced. The day prior, he claimed it was time to “stop f***ing around” and have Biden step down.

Michael Douglas

Douglas, who once played a president in The American President, said Clooney made “a valid point” in asking Biden to step aside, adding that he was “deeply concerned” about the outcome of the election. He also argued that the Democratic Party has “a lot of talent,” possibly in reference to replacements for Biden.

Earlier this year, Douglas became one of several actors to play a president to appear in a video giving the president advice for his State of the Union address.

Jon Favreau

The co-host of the Pod Save America, and former aide to former President Barack Obama, said he was not surprised Clooney said, at the fundraiser, that Biden was not the same Biden at the debate, citing how he himself was at Clooney’s fundraiser and saw it for himself. He added that Clooney is “exactly right” and everyone else at the fundraiser believed the same.

In recent days, other celebrities, such as author Stephen King, have said Biden should step aside. Elon Musk, owner of X, has increased his criticism of Biden but said he would not donate to Biden or Trump’s campaign.

Despite these growing calls, Biden has insisted that he will not step down, stating during a television appearance Monday that he was “so frustrated by the elites” asking him to step aside. He also offered Democrats concerned about him to “challenge me” at the Democratic National Convention.
