Gas prices: Average price for a gallon of regular gas is at its lowest since January – Washington Examiner

The national average price for a gallon of regular gas has decreased to its lowest since January 2024, coming in at $3.084 on Friday to end the week, according to AAA.

Friday’s gas prices remained the same as Thursday and both prices were less expensive than a week ago, when the average price for regular gas was $3.099. Prices are also cheaper than a month ago when gas was $3.203 per gallon. Gas prices have trended downward throughout the country since late summer.

The cost of gas was an important topic in the country’s political discourse for much of the last few years, as President Joe Biden was burdened with high gas prices during most of his term. Earlier this year, gas prices began to fall. Yet despite this string of decreases at the pumps, gas prices remain higher today than during the last months and days of President-elect Donald Trump’s first term. Nevertheless, gas prices continue to fluctuate across the nation and it remains to be seen what gas prices will be under a second Trump administration.

Currently, Hawaii is the state with the most expensive gas prices in the country, with a cost of $4.572 per gallon. Oklahoma has the least expensive gas in the nation, costing $2.592 per gallon. Click here to see the cost of gas in different states.
