Gas prices continue to fluctuate throughout the country – Washington Examiner

Gas prices in the country continue to fluctuate during President Joe Biden’s tenure, impacting the wallets of people nationwide.

The average price for regular gas increased 19.5% in the first four months of 2024, going from an average price of $3.075 per gallon in January to $3.676 per gallon in April, according to AAA.

In May, people may have seen a glimmer of hope at the pump. While still higher than earlier this year, the average gas price has recently dropped, offering a slight respite to consumers. Currently, the average cost of regular gas in the country is $3.59 per gallon.

This represents a slight increase from yesterday’s price of $3.591 per gallon. A week ago, the average price of regular gas throughout the country was $3.619 per gallon, a drop from last month’s average of $3.676 per gallon.

Yet, despite the recent decrease, the average price of regular gas today is still more expensive than a year ago, according to AAA. In May 2023, the average price of a gallon of regular gas was $3.54.

The average price for a gallon of gas also significantly varies by state.

California has the most expensive gas prices at $5.203 per gallon. Meanwhile, Mississippi has the cheapest gas prices with an average price of $3.048 per gallon.
