Gas prices: Decrease at the pumps continue heading into the weekend – Washington Examiner

Gas prices continued to fall across the country on Friday, with the average cost of a gallon of regular gas decreasing to $3.144. On Thursday, the price was $3.15.

Both prices are lower than a week ago when regular gas was $3.191 per gallon. Gas prices are also less expensive than a month ago when a gallon of regular gas cost the nation’s drivers $3.213 per gallon.

The price of gas is a crucial topic heading into next month’s presidential election. With President Joe Biden deciding not to seek reelection, Vice President Kamala Harris, now the Democratic presidential nominee, has to indicate how she will address the country’s gas prices and energy costs and how both affect the economy and people’s finances. Gas prices remain higher than when former President Donald Trump was in office.

Delaware

Gas prices in Delaware followed the national trend. The average cost for a gallon of regular gas in the state on Friday was $3.044, down from Thursday’s price of $3.057. This was cheaper than a week ago, when a gallon of regular gas cost Delaware residents $3.092. However, gas prices were less expensive a month ago in the First State, when a gallon of regular gas was $2.973.

Maryland

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Maryland also decreased on Friday. The new total is $3.131, a drop from Thursday’s price of $3.139. Like Delaware, both prices in Maryland are less expensive than from a week ago, when gas in the state was $3.173. Prices are actually more expensive, however, than a month ago, when regular gas was $3.075 per gallon.

Virginia

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Virginia fell on Friday to $3.055. On Thursday, it was only marginally higher, at $3.057 per gallon. Both prices are less expensive than a week ago, when regular gas was $3.103 per gallon. However, the current average price is more expensive than a month ago, when regular gas was $3.012 per gallon.

Washington, D.C.

Gas prices also decreased in Washington, D.C. on Friday, with an average price for a gallon of regular gas coming in at $3.283. This was a slight drop from Thursday’s price of $3.286. A week ago, gas in the nation’s capital was $3.292 per gallon; a month ago it was $3.323.

Texas

Texas ends the week as the state with the least expensive gas prices in the nation. A gallon of regular gas in Texas now costs $2.695, a slight drop from Thursday, when the price was $2.712. A week ago, gas in the Lone Star State cost $2.789, which was ever-so-slightly more expensive than gas prices from a month ago, when a gallon of regular gas was $2.782.

California

California again ends the week as the state with the most expensive gas prices in the nation. A gallon of regular gas on Friday cost people in the Golden State $4.604. Despite the high prices, gas costs in the state are decreasing as a week ago, the price was $4.653. A month ago, gas was $4.725.
