Gas prices dropped over the weekend, giving people in the country some relief at the pumps after prices increased nearly every day last week.
The average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.521 on Monday, according to AAA. This was a slight decrease from Sunday’s price of $3.522 per gallon but slightly more expensive than a week ago, when the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.506. It’s also more expensive than a month ago when regular gas was $3.452 per gallon.
Mississippi was the state that had the cheapest gas prices for a gallon of regular gas on Monday, with a cost of $3.005. California had the country’s most expensive gas on Monday, with a gallon of regular gas costing $4.753.

Here are the gas prices for a gallon of regular-grade gas in and around Washington, D.C., heading into the weekend.
Washington, D.C.
On Monday, the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.709 in the nation’s capital. This was a slight increase from the day before, when gas was $3.705. A week ago, regular gas was $3.72 per gallon in Washington, D.C. A month ago, it cost people in the capital $3.67 per gallon for regular gas.
Virginia
The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Virginia on Monday was $3.466. This was a decrease from yesterday’s average price of $3.469 per gallon. Prices are more expensive now than a week ago when regular-grade gas was $3.393 per gallon. A month ago in Virginia, it was $3.365, and last year at this time, a gallon of regular gas was $3.403.
Maryland
The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Maryland on Monday was $3.573. This was a decrease from Sunday’s price of $3.584. A week ago, the price for regular gas was $3.578 per gallon. A month ago, people in Maryland paid $3.612 for a gallon of regular gas. Last year at this time, a gallon of regular gas cost Marylanders $3.557 per gallon.
Delaware

This was a slight decrease from Sunday’s price of $4.691 per gallon. A week ago, it cost $4.681 per gallon for regular-grade gas. A month ago, it was $4.737 per gallon.
Alaska
Gas prices in Alaska are more expensive than the national average for a gallon of regular gas. On Monday, it cost $3.85 per gallon. This was a slight increase over Monday’s price of $3.844 per gallon. A week ago, the price was slightly more expensive than today, with the price coming in at $3.875 per gallon.
