Barbara Bush, the daughter of former President George W. Bush, campaigned with Vice President Kamala Harris in Pennsylvania over the weekend.
Neither of Barbara Bush’s parents has weighed in on the 2024 presidential election, but with weeks left until Election Day, Barbara Bush gave her support to Harris.
“It was inspiring to join friends and meet voters with the Harris-Walz campaign in Pennsylvania this weekend,” Barbara Bush told People. “I’m hopeful they’ll move our country forward and protect women’s rights.”
Prior to pledging her support for Harris, Barbara Bush said in 2010 that she was not affiliated with either the Democratic Party or the Republican Party.
In 2017, Barbara Bush spoke at a fundraising rally for Planned Parenthood, sharing how important a role the agency played during the Trump presidency.
“I am proud to stand with Planned Parenthood not only because women, regardless of where they are from, deserve to live dignified, healthy lives [but] … because it’s a really good investment,” she said at the event, according to the Texas Tribune. “We know that when women are healthy, their families and their children are healthier, too.”
While George W. Bush was anti-abortion and focused on crafting policies that built a “culture of life,” his wife, Laura, broke with the GOP platform by sharing she supports gay marriage and abortion rights. Laura Bush said abortion should “remain legal because I think it’s important for people for medical reasons and other reasons.”

Aside from former President Donald Trump, George W. Bush is the only living former Republican president, and he said he has never voted for Trump. In 2016, he reportedly voted “None of the Above” for president, and in 2021, he revealed he voted for Condoleezza Rice, his former secretary of state, in the 2020 election.
George W. Bush’s vice president, Dick Cheney, shared he will be voting for Harris, while his daughter, former Republican Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, has been active on the campaign trail for Harris.
