Glenn Youngkin says all Democrats do is ‘sell fear’ ahead of pivotal Virginia elections

Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) blasted Democrats on Monday, saying that all the party has to sell to voters is “fear,” while Republicans have “great answers” to the challenges facing Virginians.

While speaking on Fox News’s Hannity, Youngkin argued that the upcoming general election in which both parties will battle for control of the state’s General Assembly on Nov. 7 is Republicans’ chance to “demonstrate to the nation that we can turn a state completely around” and have Virginia lead again.

Control of the Virginia House of Delegates and the state Senate are up for control in this year’s election. In the House of Delegates, the GOP currently holds a narrow 48-46 majority, while the Democrats hold a 22-18 majority in the state Senate.

“We’ve got great answers to the challenges of today. Job growth, empowering parents, backing the blue, making government work for people as opposed to telling them what to do all the time, and all the other side has is to sell fear,” Youngkin said. “We’re going to drive through this to the end. We did it 2021.”

He continued, “Here’s our chance to show yet again that commonsense conservative leadership not only works, but even those voters who are in the middle — many Democrats come along with us — in order to show Virginia will lead again and demonstrate to the nation that we can turn a state completely around.”

The Virginia governor emphasized how tight the election in two weeks will be, encouraging GOP voters to utilize early voting and vote-by-mail to ensure they participate in the 2023 elections.

“Our election’s on a knife’s edge. We can hold out our House and flip our Senate. Every single one of the key races is tight. We are doing everything down the stretch to get the vote out. You know, the winner of [the] election is the one who gets the most votes. It’s the people that show up. And so, we’re pushing hard to get Republicans off the sidelines,” Youngkin said.

He is also pushing for Republicans to vote in the election to give him control of the state House and Senate to prove that “commonsense conservative leadership delivers.”

The 2023 election in the Old Dominion is also expected to be a test of Youngkin’s influence in the commonwealth, potentially setting him up for a future national or statewide run.
