Republican lawmakers ripped the “failed policies” and danger of Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) in a media blitz before and after Vice President Kamala Harris named him as her running mate.
“What matters is what did you do as a governor, Tim Walz, and what matters is what did Kamala Harris do when she was vice president and a United States senator,” Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) said on Fox News’s America’s Newsroom. “This is a very dangerous ticket, a very liberal ticket, a very progressive ticket. This ticket will leave the American people last at a time when the American people have already left behind.”
Democrat leaders, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), have attempted to praise Walz for his “right down the middle” approach and career in the Army National Guard, but Republicans pointed to his myriad of failures during the George Floyd riots, which saw large parts of Minneapolis set ablaze, and radical policies as the real focus points of his nomination to the Harris ticket.
“They make an interesting tag team because Tim Walz allowed rioters to burn down Minneapolis in the summer of 2020, and then, the few who got caught, Kamala Harris helped bail them out of jail,” said Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), Republican vice presidential nominee.
“It is more instructive for what it says about Kamala Harris,” Vance added. “She doesn’t care about the border. She doesn’t care about crime. She doesn’t care about American energy, and, most importantly, she doesn’t care about the Americans who have been made to suffer under those policies.”
Walz’s apparent favoritism toward illegal immigrants has damaged his own state, according to Rep. Pete Stauber (R-MN).
“Just look at the failed policies that he has put forward. It’s unbelievable,” Stauber said. “You look at the illegal immigrants. He has given free driver’s licenses, healthcare, and college to illegal immigrants, and he wants to make Minnesota a sanctuary state.”
“That’s one of his goals, and if you look at his socialist agenda and the Democrat Socialists of America, Tim Walz fits that identity,” he added.
For weeks, many anticipated that Harris would choose Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA), but the vice president’s pandering to appease pro-Hamas sentiment directed her toward Walz, according to Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR).

“That was the only choice that had an organized campaign against him by the pro-Hamas anti-Semitic wing of the party,” Cotton said. “Frankly, Josh Shapiro and Tim Walz’s views on the Middle East are not all that different. Kamala Harris is simply catering here to her far-left, pro-Hamas element in the Democratic Party.”
“I wouldn’t say that she’s leading that wing of it, but, let’s be honest, she can’t lead anything,” he added.
