Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) argued that Democratic lawmakers who oppose the incoming Trump administration’s deportation plans will only experience more losses at the ballot box, as they are going against what most voters asked for.
President-elect Donald Trump has said he intends to declare a national emergency to carry out mass deportations of illegal immigrants, which would include using the military. Ahead of Trump and his Cabinet being sworn in next year, several Democratic governors and mayors, such as Govs. Katie Hobbs (D-AZ), J.B. Pritzker (D-IL), and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, vowed to oppose these deportations, which the Texas governor soundly rebuked.
“They’re doubling down on the reasons why they lost the election,” Abbott said on Fox News’s America’s Newsroom. “What the Americans demanded were, for one, said communities, but for another, to stop the illegal immigration into our country, especially of those who pose great dangers. Whether it be in Arizona, whether it be in Massachusetts, or other places across the country where they’re not going to be cooperating with ICE, with the border czar, and with any effort to remove very dangerous criminals, they’re going to see more crimes in their cities and see more losses at the ballot box because Americans are angry about this.”
During his appearance, Abbott also previewed how Texas is assisting the incoming Trump administration with its deportations and border security, including 1,400 acres of Texas land dedicated to helping these efforts. Abbott referenced how even more water buoy barriers are being added in this area to deter illegal border crossings, and Texas is also utilizing state law enforcement to arrest criminals who are illegal immigrants, including those part of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua.
The Trump campaign has promised to prioritize the deportations of criminals, including murderers and terrorists, with its plans for border security. Republican National Committee Co-Chairwoman Lara Trump contended that Democrats failing to address the border crisis was the main reason they lost the election, as the election results represented a “breakup” between voters and the Democratic Party.

Earlier this week, the incoming “border czar” for the Trump administration, Tom Homan, stressed the need to find the 300,000 children within the country who went missing amid the border crisis. He argued the Biden administration released “half a million children” into the United States to “unvetted sponsors,” of which 300,000 cannot be located.
Like Abbott, Homan has rebuked Democratic lawmakers who plan to oppose the Trump administration’s deportation plans, telling them to “get the hell out of the way.”
