Haley sets self apart from field as Christie drops out: ‘Not like the fellas’

One day after former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was heard on a hot mic dissing Republican candidate Nikki Haley, the former U.N. ambassador said politics isn’t personal for her and insisted she is “not like the fellas.”

Before ending his presidential bid at a New Hampshire town hall on Wednesday evening, Christie was caught on a hot mic predicting Haley was “gonna get smoked.”

“She spent $68 million so far,” Christie said. “And we spent 12. I mean, who’s punching above their weight, and who’s getting a return on their investment?”

“She’s going to get smoked, you and I both know,” Christie said of the former South Carolina governor.  “She’s not up to this.”

After facing off against Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) in the GOP’s fifth presidential debate, Haley spent Thursday campaigning in the state ahead of the caucuses in four days. Speaking to Fox News in Ankeny, Iowa, Haley said she “didn’t know about the open mic comments.”

“But I do wish Chris well. It’s personal to get in a race; it’s personal to get out of a race. So I know how tough that must be. But at the same time, I’m not like the fellas. Politics is not personal for me,” Haley added.

While Haley gains on the Republican front-runner, former President Donald Trump, Christie suspended his long-shot presidential campaign, maintaining his attacks on the former president in his departure speech.

“I am going to make sure that in no way do I enable Donald Trump ever [to] be president of the United States again, and that’s more important than my own personal ambition,” Christie said.

Haley said she talked to Christie on Thursday morning and expressed her appreciation for his “commitment to this race” but did not ask for an endorsement.
