Harris calls impromptu address from VP residence to bash Trump – Washington Examiner

Vice President Kamala Harris called an impromptu press conference Wednesday to denounce remarks former President Donald Trump reportedly said about Adolf Hitler.

“In just the past week, Donald Trump has repeatedly called his fellow Americans the enemy from within and even said that he would use the United States military to go after American citizens,” she said. “Let’s be clear about who he considers to be the enemy from within — anyone who refuses to bend a knee or dares to criticize him would qualify.”

Harris and her campaign are working hard to highlight remarks from former Trump White House chief of staff John Kelly, saying Trump met his definition of fascism. The Atlantic also reported Tuesday that Trump once said he needed “the kind of Generals that Hitler had.”

Trump’s team fiercely denies the accusations.

“John Kelly has totally beclowned himself with these debunked stories he has fabricated because he failed to serve his President well while working as chief of staff and currently suffers from a debilitating case of Trump Derangement Syndrome,” Spokesman Steven Cheung said. “President Trump has always honored the service and sacrifice of all of our military men and women, whereas Kamala Harris has completely disrespected the families of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, including the Abbey Gate 13.”

But Harris is determined to make sure the public knows about the story. In remarks lasting less than three minutes, she blasted Trump over Kelly’s comments.

“It is deeply troubling and incredibly dangerous that Donald Trump would invoke Adolf Hitler, the man who is responsible for the deaths of 6 million Jews and hundreds of thousands of Americans,” she said.
“All of this is further evidence for the American people of who Donald Trump really is.”

She did not take questions from the press after speaking.

Polling momentum seems to favor Trump with less than two weeks to go before Election Day. But Harris is warning that he is not equipped to hold the office and would be dangerous if elected.

“Donald Trump is increasingly unhinged and unstable,” Harris said. “And in a second term, people like John Kelly would not be there to be the guardrails against his propensities and his actions.”
