Harris underperformed President Joe Biden’s turnout from 2020 in every county nationwide. This came as a shock to the celebrities who encouraged their fans to vote for the vice president. Some of these stars still held some vitriol for those who elected President-elect Donald Trump.
“It’s a war on women,” singer-songwriter Billie Eilish wrote on her Instagram story.
Actor Ben Platt shared a viral post from X on his Instagram story that explained the “reason why educated people vote blue.”
“What we’re seeing is the uneducated population of America holding the rest of the country hostage,” the post read. “This is why there’s such a push to weaken education, ban books, and outlaw the teaching of Black history by the Republican Party.”
“HEAVY ON MY HEART & MIND THIS AM,” Los Angeles Laker player LeBron James captioned a photo of himself with his daughter Zhuri following the results. “MY PRINCESS 👸🏾!! PROMISE TO PROTECT YOU WITH EVERYTHING I HAVE AND MORE!! WE DON’T NEED THEIR HELP!”
Others tried to console the disappointed Harris supporters. Actor Nick Offerman, who once wrote a parody of “Proud to be an American” titled “Proud to be a Kamala Man,” shared a poem by James Baldwin in the hours after the election was called to his Instagram story.
“Love has never been a popular movement. And no one’s ever wanted, really, to be free. The world is held together, really it is held together, by the love and the passion of a very few people. Otherwise, of course, you can despair,” the poem reads. “Walk down the street of any city, any afternoon, and look around you. What you’ve got to remember is what you’re looking at is also you. Everyone you’re looking at is also you. You could be that person. You could be that monster, you could be that cop. And you have to decide, in yourself, not to be.”
“Holding the hand of every person who is feeling the immeasurable heaviness of this outcome today,” pop star Ariana Grande wrote on her Instagram story.
Actress Julia Roberts simply posted a video of an American flag flowing in the wind to the tune of “America the Beautiful.”
Others tried to be civil to the other side. Rapper Cardi B was among them after she refused to endorse Biden but gave a full-throated endorsement to Harris once she took over in July.
“No need to nasty, y’all picked your winner,” Cardi B wrote. “All we can do is be hopeful and wish the best. Before Kamala joined the race, we knew how this country is set up and what was probably going to happen but it was so inspiring how she fought and changed so many minds, including mine.”
“Congrats @realDonaldTrump. You won fair and square,” Dallas Mavericks minority owner Mark Cuban wrote on X. “Congrats to @elonmusk as well. #Godspeed”
Another few expressed their gratitude for Harris as a candidate. Actress Viola Davis posted a photo of Harris to her Instagram.
“Thank you for your bravery @kamalaharris. Thank you for loving America’s promise,” Davis captioned the photo. “I am and will forever be proud.”
“Salute to Vice President Kamala Harris, she has nothing to be ashamed about in this moment. She was the best possible candidate to run, especially under the circumstances. She did a great job and a great, great campaign over the last hundred days,” radio host Charlamagne tha God said on his program. But he went on to critique Biden for not dropping out of the race earlier and giving his successor more than a hundred days to campaign.

“This guy should’ve stepped down two years ago,” Charlamagne said of Biden. “He should’ve told us that he was gonna step down two years prior or at least a year prior to give them the opportunity to actually have a real primary and pick a real candidate.”
The final group of celebrity surrogates remained silent. Notably, media mogul Oprah had not made a public comment as of Wednesday afternoon. Oprah was with Harris Tuesday at her Howard University election party, which turned into an abandoned party when supporters were dismissed early Wednesday.
