Harris strategy of avoiding the press is ‘working’: Byron York – Washington Examiner

The Washington Examiner’s Byron York stated that Vice President Kamala Harris’s strategy to win the 2024 election seems to be not saying anything to the press, which for the moment “seems to be working” in turning her party’s polling numbers around.

Since stepping in for President Joe Biden as the Democratic Party’s 2024 presidential nominee, Harris has yet to conduct any interviews with the press about her ambitions for the White House. Despite this, she received “glowing” coverage from Time magazine’s cover story, with York, the Washington Examiner’s chief political correspondent, noting how the magazine specifically stated that Harris refused to do an interview.

“Her polls are going up. I mean, Joe Biden was trailing former President Trump, nationally and in the swing states, and Harris has reversed that, for the moment at least,” York said on Fox News’s America Reports on Monday. “Polls going up, celebratory news coverage, all by not outlying any policy positions.”

York predicted that if Harris starts to slip in the polls in the weeks to come, then she could begin doing interviews with the press.

York added that he “had to laugh” at Harris’s about-face on her focus on the border, arguing that the vice president is “responsible” for the mass influx in illegal immigration in the country. He also doubted that Harris could effectively turn her reputation around on illegal immigration, as this topic is important to voters and she is “so indelibly associated” with the Biden administration’s record on it.

Current polling data indicates that Harris has a lead over former President Donald Trump, including in the swing states Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. The conduction of this data began the same day Harris announced Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) as her running mate, which potentially pushed her ahead in these states due to Walz being a Midwestern governor.

While Harris has yet to conduct an interview as the Democratic Party’s 2024 candidate, Trump is set to do a live interview with X owner Elon Musk, who will host the interview on his platform. Trump made a return to X on Monday after almost a yearlong absence from the platform.
