Harris supporter Usher encourages everyone to make their ‘individual choice’ in this election – Washington Examiner

R&B superstar Usher confirmed his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris but encouraged people to make their own “individual choice” in the presidential election.

Usher appeared on The View on Wednesday as co-host Joy Behar pressed the eight-time Grammy winner about his thoughts on the previous night’s presidential debate and the importance of celebrities, including Taylor Swift, speaking out against former President Donald Trump.

“I think that the artists should come out and speak for Kamala against Donald Trump because he is an existential threat to the country. What do you say to that?” Behar said to Usher.

“You know, I don’t get too deep into politics. I didn’t get a chance to watch the debate last night. I obviously have been watching like everybody else. I think voting is an individual choice,” he said to Behar.

The musician was performing the night of the presidential debate. He is promoting his new concert film, Usher: Rendezvous in Paris, and his latest concert tour.

“I think that, you’re right, you have to look at the reality of the country that we are and the country that we want to be and find a candidate … who fits the category of where we want to be. That’s it and that’s what you vote based off of. Who you highlight and how you choose to highlight it on whatever platform you have is your prerogative,” the 45-year-old singer continued.

“Everybody is not built to do that,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg responded to his diplomatic approach to tolerating different political views, adding, “All you can do is hope that the people you revere have good sense and they’re going to be doing the same thing. But what they do has nothing to do with what you do.”

“It’s an individual process,” he chimed in.

In her endorsement of Harris, Swift had also encouraged fans of her social media account to do their own research for the election.

“I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make,” she wrote Tuesday night.
