Here’s why the Postal Service wants people to replace their mailboxes – Washington Examiner

The U.S. Postal Service is asking homeowners to supersize their mailboxes.

The newer mailboxes come as package theft has become a growing topic of concern for both online shoppers and shippers, as over 75% of people in the United States had a package stolen from them last year. The total loss of shipping costs created by package theft in 2023 totaled to over $1.1 billion.

“Being able to have all of your mail items in your box prevents oversize items from being left at the door when a customer is not home,” a USPS spokesperson said.

The Postal Service has clarified that it will not be making any money from people who choose to upgrade their mailboxes to the recommended size of over 13’ wide, and it is directing homeowners to home improvement stores to make the purchase.
