Hillary Clinton says Trump’s MSG rally will ‘reenact’ Nazi event – Washington Examiner

Hillary Clinton said that former President Donald Trump will “reenact” a 1939 Nazi event at his Madison Square Garden rally in New York City on Sunday.

Clinton, who lost the presidential election to Trump in 2016, has been one of his biggest critics, recently turning up the heat on the former president by calling his rhetoric “blatantly fascist.” And during a Thursday CNN interview with anchor Kaitlan Collins, she accused him of a new strategy.

“One other thing that you’ll see next week, Kaitlin, is Trump actually reenacting the [Nazi] Madison Square Garden rally in 1939. I write about this in my book,” Clinton, a former New York senator, said. “President Franklin Roosevelt was appalled that neo-nazis, fascists in America were lining up to essentially pledge their support for the kind of government that they were seeing in Germany. So I don’t think we can ignore it.”

Trump is holding a rally at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan on Sunday, despite New York being a near-guaranteed blue state. The appearance could help drive donations or exposure to his campaign, though.

Other Democrats have compared Trump’s appearance at the arena to the infamous Nazi 1939 rally there, including Democratic State Sen. Brad Hoylman-Sigal. He said it’s “not terribly dissimilar from that infamous rally back in 1939 at Madison Square Garden that was sponsored by the American Nazi Party.”

The event is sure to cause a considerable ruckus in blue New York City, though Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) says the city is ready for him. “This is America, so people can have rallies, and it’s their right to gather, certainly, and I feel very confident in the police to handle it, and if they need our help, we’ll be there. There’s 30,000 NYPD, I have 6,000 state police. If they need our help, we’re there,” Hochul said.

Trump also held a rally in the South Bronx earlier this year, while President Joe Biden was the Democratic nominee. Polls showed New York within single-digit reach for Trump around that time in May, but they have since receded in Vice President Kamala Harris’s favor.

World War II began in September 1939, when Nazi Germany invaded Poland.
