Homer Simpson will keep choking Bart, the co-creator of The Simpsons announced, after a rumor started that the running gag was coming to an end.

The notion that the choking gag was on its way out came about after Homer was told by a new neighbor he had a firm handshake, according to a report.

“See, Marge, strangling the boy has paid off!” Homer said. “Just kidding. I don’t do that anymore. … Times have changed.”

Homer’s new approach to disciplining his son was short-lived, as the show’s co-creator James L. Brooks set the record straight in a recent interview.

“Don’t think for a second we’re changing anything,” Brooks said.

“Nothing’s getting tamed. Nothing, nothing, nothing. … He’ll continue to be strangled — [if] you want to use that awful term for it. He’ll continue to be loved by his father in a specific way,” he said.

The strangling of the boy has just been one of many criticisms the show has faced as critics push it to become more politically correct.

The Simpsons is in its 35th season, but Homer has not strangled his son since season 31, according to the report.
