House Freedom Caucus member Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) is supporting a primary challenger to the group’s chairman, Rep. Bob Good (R-VA).

State Sen. John McGuire (R), a former Navy SEAL, was endorsed by Davidson on Sunday, just two days before Virginia’s primary elections, where the two will go head to head. Davidson’s backing of Good’s challenger comes after former President Donald Trump endorsed McGuire in May.

“I love this country with a soldier’s passion. I’ve served in Congress since 2016, and we need reinforcements to help Make America Great Again. I’m happy to join President Trump by supporting and endorsing John McGuire for Congress,” Davidson said in his endorsement, which was first shared with Politico and posted by McGuire on X.

“I look forward to serving with him in the 119th Congress to support President Trump and the America First agenda,” he added. “Drain the swamp!”

When previously asked by the outlet if Good’s ouster would be embarrassing for the Freedom Caucus, Davidson answered, “I’m sure he would be embarrassed that he lost.”

The Washington Examiner reached out to Davidson for comment.

Good fell out of favor with Trump after endorsing his rival, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), in his failed 2024 presidential run. Though he later backtracked by endorsing Trump and even showed up at his Manhattan hush money trial, Trump has set out to oust him.

In a post on Truth Social, shortly after seeing Good in a Capitol Hill meeting, Trump said the Virginia Republican was “turn[ing] his back on our incredible movement.”

“[Good] was constantly attacking and fighting me until recently, when he gave a warm and ‘loving’ Endorsement — But really, it was too late,” Trump said. “The damage had been done! I just want to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, and the person that can most help me do that is Navy Seal and highly respected State Legislator, John McGuire, a true American Hero.”

Last month, the Trump campaign sent Good a cease-and-desist letter to stop producing campaign materials that appeared to imply Trump was supporting him.

“There are a lot of unscrupulous people and groups who seek to make money off President Trump’s name and Campaign,” the letter read. “President Trump is very concerned with ensuring that his supporters are not deceived into thinking they are contributing to a candidate — like you — that President Trump does not support.”

Other members of the House Freedom Caucus have gone against Davidson and Trump by campaigning for Good. Reps. Chip Roy (R-TX), Andrew Clyde (R-GA), and Andy Biggs (R-AZ) appeared alongside him at a Friday campaign rally.
