The House Republican Conference voted to move on from Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) as their speaker nominee in conference after three failed votes on the floor.

With each failed vote, Jordan lost more support each time. On the third ballot Friday, 25 Republicans voted against him, making it clear he had no path to the speakership.

In a closed-door meeting on Friday, Republicans voted to abandon Jordan as their nominee. The process of selecting a new speaker will now start over again.

Jordan’s allies had previously signaled they would push for a weekend of voting. Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy took 15 ballots to win the gavel before being removed last month.
