National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Richard Hudson (R-NC) is hosting a party for former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as speculation circulates about the California Republican’s future in Congress.
Hudson is throwing the party to “thank our colleague and former Speaker Kevin McCarthy for his tireless work supporting our conference and his efforts to win this Majority,” according to an invite obtained by the Washington Examiner.

The event, scheduled to take place on Dec. 13 from 6-9 p.m., will include Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA), Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN), Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Deputy Whip Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA), and Conference Secretary Lisa McClain (R-MI).
“Please join us to toast a man who has done so much for each one of us,” the invite says. “We know this is a busy time of year, but I hope you will join us for this special night.”
Speculation has grown among House members about McCarthy’s future, and he has offered vague statements on what he has in store, telling the Daily Mail in an interview that a decision on whether or not he’s running for reelection is “coming up. I’ve got to make a decision. I have my papers and I’m looking at it.”

The deadline for him to file to run in California is Dec. 8, this Friday. However, even if he does file, he does not have to run, or he could resign his seat at any time.
