Eighteen-year-old Barron Trump was the catalyst for his father’s campaign, blanketing the podcast airwaves in a push to win over young men and storm back to the White House.
The former president’s youngest son is clued into all the hottest podcasts for Gen Z men, including This Past Weekend with Theo Von. When a staffer came to President-elect Donald Trump during the campaign to talk about making a podcast appearance, he asked if the plan had been run by Barron. The strategy ultimately resulted in the former president making more than a dozen podcast appearances en route to his Tuesday victory.
A first-time voter and college freshman at New York University, Barron Trump told his father he and his peers aren’t tuning in to CNN, Fox News, or any major network affiliate to keep up with the news. Instead, Barron Trump said he and his generation look to podcasts for entertainment and to stay informed about what’s going on in the world.
The Joe Rogan Experience, hosted by Joe Rogan, and Impaulsive, hosted by Logan Paul, were two of the biggest shows Donald Trump appeared on. The shows, which cater specifically to younger men, have hosts who may make politically incorrect jokes that toss them out of the mainstream but make them central to a key bloc of voters.
One of the first podcasts the president-elect appeared on was in June with the 29-year-old Paul. Paul, a social media celebrity turned professional boxer, has gone viral for years for his clickbait videos that garner millions of views.
Donald Trump’s interview with Paul and his brother, Jake Paul, lasted nearly an hour and has garnered 6 million views — all thanks to a gentle nudge from Barron Trump.
Two months later, the former president appeared on a Twitch stream with 24-year-old Adin Ross, during which he shared with Ross how big of a deal he is with young voters.
“My sons told me about you,” Donald Trump shared on the stream. “They told me about how big —Barron, he said, ‘Dad, he’s really big.’”
While on This Past Weekend with Theo Von, Trump shared with the self-proclaimed “Rat King” that his youngest son said Von was a “big deal.”
During an October interview with Maria Bartiromo, the former president shared how Barron Trump clues him in on which podcasts are “hot.”
As podcast interviews overtook traditional news interviews this election cycle, Donald Trump’s campaign team would pitch podcast appearances to him, but the former president would direct his staff to see what Barron Trump thinks.
All of Trump’s podcasts appeared to pay off. Approximately half of men under the age of 30 voted for him. Democrats have previously held an advantage with young voters, garnering a 24-point advantage for President Joe Biden in 2020. However, Vice President Kamala Harris’s advantage shrunk to 11 points this cycle.
Donald Trump gained substantially with black and Latino male voters, as he gained a record number of the Latino vote.

NBC News exit polls estimated that 54% of Latino men voted for the former president, while 44% supported Harris.
Compared to 2020, Donald Trump nearly doubled his votes among young black men, as about 3 in 10 black men under the age of 45 supported him.
