President Joe Biden‘s reelection campaign is looking to use the Republican presidential debate in Southern California as a way to boost support for the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee going into 2024.

The Biden campaign will be creating advertisements directed at Latino voters in swing states, using narrators from various regions, along with putting their campaign message on popular Latino television and digital programs, according to a report from NBC News.

“President Biden’s campaign knows Latinos’ political power and is investing early and aggressively to make his case because we won’t take their votes for granted,” Maca Casado, Hispanic media director for the Biden campaign, told the outlet.

In addition to those initiatives, the Biden campaign is also looking to combat alleged misinformation aimed at Latino voters as part of its messaging plan.

The plan from the Biden campaign is the second time they have used the GOP debate as a backdrop to launch new initiatives in swing states and with key voting demographics. Ahead of the first Republican presidential debate in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, last month, the campaign had a presence on the ground and made an ad buy in several battleground states targeting Hispanic and black media.

In recent elections, Democrats have been losing their dominance of the Latino voter as Republicans have made inroads with the key demographic leading into the 2024 election. A report from the Pew Research Center released in July showed that Democratic candidates were only favored by 21 points in 2022, compared with 47 points in 2018.

Democrats are looking to halt or reverse the trend going into 2024, which looks to be another tight race for Biden in the general election, according to the RealClearPolitics polling average.
