A hunter in the North Carolina mountains stumbled across a couple’s vehicle that was stuck in the mud Monday night, leading to a search party rescuing the couple during heavy snowfall.
First responders said a hunter reported there was an immobilized Jeep entrenched in the mud way off the beaten trail at around 5:30 p.m. in the Pisgah National Forest in Burke County, North Carolina, according to The Charlotte Observer.
The couple’s Jeep was discovered on an off-roading trail at Brown Mountain, according to the outlet, citing first responders. (RELATED: Rare Albino Deer Caught On Camera — The Scene Is Absolutely Majestic)
The couple was unfamiliar with the location and took a wrong turn, resulting in their vehicle getting stuck in the mud, Burke County Emergency Services Director James M. Robinson told the outlet.
“They were seen by a hunter who made the report, but could not give their exact location, and he was out of the area due to cell service so we could not GPS plot his 911 call for their location either,” Robinson continued.
This prompted a search party carried out by the Oak Hill Fire and Rescue, as well as the Burke County Rescue squad, in the dark amid snowfall in the freezing cold.
After “working methodically” for a couple of hours, local officials came across the Jeep Compass by about 7:30 p.m., The Charlotte Observer stated. (RELATED: ‘It Was Me And God’: Hunter Survives Weeks Lost In California Mountains)
