Israel war: Ilhan Omar slammed as ‘unfit to serve’ and ‘out of her mind’ over comments

Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) slammed Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) for saying the United States should stop “unconditional weapons sales and military aid to Israel” after hundreds of its citizens were killed in Hamas terrorist attacks over the weekend.

Lawler called the Minnesota Democrat “unfit to serve in the House of Representatives” and out of her mind for her policy proposal in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday.

ISRAEL ORDERS ‘TOTAL SIEGE’ OF GAZA IN AFTERMATH OF UNPRECEDENTED TERROR ATTACK BY HAMAS

Israel was just brutally attacked by terrorists, funded by Iran, and you want to cut off funding and military aid and equipment. You are out of your mind and unfit to serve in the House of Representatives. This is why you were removed from the Foreign Affairs committee. https://t.co/nRIulpUgQi

“Israel was just brutally attacked by terrorists, funded by Iran, and you want to cut off funding and military aid and equipment. You are out of your mind and unfit to serve in the House of Representatives. This is why you were removed from the Foreign Affairs committee,” Lawler wrote.

The original statement that Lawler was responding to had Omar trying to change the focus of the war in Israel to Palestinian citizens and called for the U.S. to halt its support to Israel and work toward “peace.

“Instead of continuing unconditional weapons sales and military aid to Israel, I urge the United States at long last to use its diplomatic might to push for peace,” Omar said in a post on X.

Omar was removed from the House Foreign Affairs Committee in a party-line vote in February for remarks she made in 2019 when she claimed politicians who support Israel were only doing so because they were getting funds from the Jewish state.

Several House Democrats in the “Squad,” a nickname for a group of liberal lawmakers, have been criticized for their statements about Hamas, with Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) still having a Palestinian flag still outside her congressional office on Monday. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), one of the most famous members of the “Squad,” broke from the group and condemned the “hatred and antisemitism” at a rally in New York City that celebrated the recent terrorist attack against Israel by Hamas.

Israel declared war against Hamas, the first time it had declared war since 1973, shortly after the attacks on Saturday. The conflict has killed at least 1,800 people on both sides since the first terrorist attacks by Hamas, according to the Associated Press.
