Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) still has a Palestinian flag hanging outside of her House office after the invasion of Israel by Hamas, during which hundreds of Israelis and some Americans were killed.

Over the weekend, Hamas, a Palestinian militia group whose mission is to destroy Israel, invaded Israel and bombarded the country with missiles.

ISRAEL ORDERS ‘TOTAL SIEGE’ OF GAZA IN AFTERMATH OF UNPRECEDENTED TERROR ATTACK BY HAMAS

The surprise attack killed at least 600 Israelis and left 2,000 wounded. It is reported that at least nine Americans have also been killed. The Israeli counterattack in Gaza and at Hamas structures has left 313 Palestinians dead and 1,990 wounded, with the fatalities expected to increase on both sides.

Tlaib, who is of Palestinian descent, has not supported Israel and has made her stance on supporting Palestine known throughout the years. The Michigan Democrat, along with other members of the liberal “Squad,” boycotted the Israeli president’s joint address to Congress earlier this year. The flag outside her office has been there through at least the majority of this Congress.

“I grieve the Palestinian and Israeli lives lost yesterday, today, and every day,” she said in a statement on Sunday about the invasion of Israel. “I am determined as ever to fight for a just future where everyone can live in peace, without fear, and with true freedom, equal rights, and human dignity.”

“The path to that future must include lifting the blockade, ending the occupation, and dismantling the apartheid system that creates the suffocating, dehumanizing conditions that can lead to resistance,” Tlaib continued. “The failure to recognize the violent reality of living under siege, occupation, and apartheid makes no one safer. No person, no child anywhere, should have to suffer or live in fear of violence.”

Tlaib’s office did not respond to comment about the Palestinian flag hanging outside her office amid the invasion of Israel. A spokesperson for House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) did not respond to a request for comment.

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) condemned members of the House who continue to stand with Palestine and against Israel, saying that “antisemitism” in the House should be confronted.

“Allowing the elected members of this body to speak antisemitism and not condemn it is wrong,” McCarthy said at a press conference.
