Jeffries touts ‘inclusive economy’ as Biden’s 2024 winning strategy amid concern of losing black voters – Washington Examiner

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) stated Sunday that President Joe Biden has an “inclusive economy” as part of the president’s strategy in winning over the support of black voters ahead of the 2024 election, which could potentially be a rematch between him and former President Donald Trump.

During an appearance on Face the Nation, Jeffries was asked about Trump’s support among black voters being higher this year as opposed to just before the 2020 presidential election, as the latest poll from CBS News indicates that 23% of black voters plan to vote for the former president. About how Biden can win back the enthusiasm of this group of voters, Jeffries stated that he was confident that they would remember what the president has done to help them, such as making investments into black colleges and lowering unemployment levels for black voters.

“And Joe Biden has a vision for the future of an inclusive economy that grows the middle class and ensures things like home ownership within the African American community can continue to grow,” Jeffries said.

The poll Jeffries was asked about showed that 76% of black voters are planning to vote for Biden this November, a decrease from the 92% of black voters who voted for him in 2020.

Gov. Wes Moore (D-MD), a member of the Biden-Harris 2024 National Advisory Board, has also dismissed concerns about the president potentially losing support from black voters. Moore’s confidence in this voter block consolidating around the president stems from the black community always being “a priority of the president.”

The economy is expected to be one of the main factors for voters ahead of the 2024 election, with a survey conducted last month stating that 20% of 1,493 respondents believe the economy and inflation are the biggest areas of concern. Meanwhile, 14% said healthcare was the biggest, with 12% saying immigration.
