House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) subpoenaed Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis on Friday for records of her use of federal grant money, citing whistleblower allegations that she had misused the funds.

The subpoena, obtained by the Washington Examiner, directs Willis to provide his office with all receipts related to the hundreds of thousands of dollars her office has received from the federal government, as well as all communication related to allegations about Willis inappropriately using that money.

Jordan’s subpoena comes after Willis, who is leading a high-profile prosecution against former President Donald Trump, was accused by one of the co-defendants in the case of bankrolling a private sector attorney with whom she had a personal, romantic relationship. A hearing is set to take place on Willis’s alleged conflict of interest this month.

In a letter to Willis accompanying the subpoena, Jordan did not mention this allegation, but he cited a new whistleblower claim that first surfaced in the Washington Free Beacon this week. The whistleblower accused Willis of firing an employee after the employee brought concerns to her in 2021 that a Willis aide planned to use a portion of a $488,000 federal grant for frivolous expenses.

“I said, ‘You cannot do that, it’s a very, very specific grant,’” the whistleblower told Willis of her aide at the time. The whistleblower indicated that the new allegations about the private sector attorney, named Nathan Wade, support a “pattern” of financial impropriety.

Jordan’s subpoena directed Willis to respond with the requested documents by Feb. 23.

“These allegations raise serious concerns about whether you were appropriately supervising the expenditure of federal grant funding allocated to your office and whether you took actions to conceal your office’s unlawful use of federal funds,” Jordan wrote.
