President Joe Biden is publicly embracing son Hunter amid his impeachment inquiry, lunching with him in Delaware to mark the anniversary of the car crash that killed his first wife and daughter.

Joe Biden and Hunter Biden were joined by others for lunch at Rocco Italian Grill and Sports Bar in Wilmington, Delaware, for about an hour Monday, according to White House and pool reports.

“The president and Hunter Biden are having lunch with friends,” the White House said.

Joe Biden arrived in Delaware on Sunday for the anniversary of the 1972 accident that killed his first wife, Neilia, and their 1-year-old daughter Naomi months after he was first elected to the Senate, representing the First State. Neilia was the mother of Hunter Biden and Biden’s late son Beau.

Earlier Monday, Joe Biden and his family, including his second wife, first lady Jill Biden, gathered at St. Joseph on the Brandywine in Greenville, Delaware, where Neilia and Naomi Biden are buried, for a private memorial mass.

Joe Biden and Hunter Biden have remained defiant amid the inquiry, with Hunter Biden addressing the press last week from outside Congress, where he was supposed to appear before the House Oversight and Judiciary committees for a closed-door deposition. Hunter Biden declined to do so unless the proceedings were made public. The inquiry, which was formalized by House Republicans last week, centers on Biden family business dealings, including those of Hunter Biden.

“My father was not financially involved in my business,” Hunter Biden said Wednesday before defying a congressional subpoena from House Republicans as part of their impeachment inquiry into the president.
