Joe Biden hits ‘Broke Don’ Trump where it hurts: His wallet – Washington Examiner

President Joe Biden‘s 2024 campaign launched a new line of attack on Thursday, mocking former President Donald Trump‘s cash flow problems.

After hauling in more than $50 million in February, Biden’s campaign ended the month with $155 million cash on hand, roughly $100 million more than his Republican opponent.

Trump himself has maintained strong fundraising numbers, but he’s spent more than two-thirds of his donations this cycle on the legal fees and penalties stemming from his dozens of federal indictments. Furthermore, Trump’s business and real estate interests in New York City, including Trump Tower, are at risk of being seized by the state if he fails to post a $454 million bond ordered by the guilty ruling in his New York civil fraud case.

“KEEP YOUR FILTHY HANDS OFF TRUMP TOWER,” Trump wrote in a fundraising message distributed by one of his joint fundraising committees. “Insane radical Democrat AG Letitia James wants to SEIZE my properties in New York. THIS INCLUDES THE ICONIC TRUMP TOWER!”

“So before the day is over, I’m calling on ONE MILLION Pro-Trump patriots to chip in and say: STOP THE WITCH HUNT AGAINST PRESIDENT TRUMP!” the message concluded.

The Biden team, including campaign officials, Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison, and even the president himself, all mocked Trump’s financial troubles on Thursday.

Biden broached the subject during a fundraiser in Houston.

“I know not everyone’s feeling enthusiasm. The other day, a defeated man, looking man came up to me and said, ‘Mr. President, I’m being crushed by debt. I’m completely wiped out,’” the president told the room, according to the traveling press pool. “I had to say, ‘I’m sorry, Donald, I can’t help you.’”

The Biden campaign additionally sent two press releases Thursday mocking Trump on the issue.

The first release, titled “Not a Winning Campaign: Broke Don Hides in Basement,” claimed that Trump’s cash disadvantage is preventing him from campaigning as much as Biden has been.

The second, titled “Donald Trump’s ‘New’ Latino Ad Has a Catch … It’s from His Last Campaign,” suggested that Trump’s legal fees are forcing him to recycle advertising assets from 2020.

“Trump’s ‘new’ ad targeting Latinos is the same one that he posted in 2020,” the campaign wrote. “Maybe he can’t afford a new one?”

Harrison also joked on Twitter about the former president’s efforts to have his supporters help foot the bill for his legal troubles, suggesting that Trump’s Save America PAC should instead be called the “Save My Ass Because I’m Broke PAC.”

“Only a con man and grifter like Donald Trump would be so brazen as to take campaign donors’ money to pay his mounting legal bills before the financially strapped RNC even gets a cut,” DNC spokesman Alex Floyd added in a lengthy statement. “His campaign and the RNC are already in financial disarray, and Trump is only making their never-ending problems worse by turning his fundraising operation into a begging cup for his legal debts.”

“It’s admittedly a hard pitch to ask donors to give to Trump’s flailing, off-the-rails disaster of a campaign, but Trump’s no stranger to swindling people out of their money to help himself first,” Floyd continued. “His selfish grifting to pay his debts is just guaranteeing that Republicans will keep putting up horrendous fundraising numbers while losing election after election.”

The Trump campaign did not respond to inquiries on Biden’s campaign attacks.
