MSNBC anchor Joe Scarborough suggested that Donald Trump’s status has kept him out of jail.

Scarborough ranted Thursday on Morning Joe about the 91 felony charges Trump is facing, which include mishandling classified documents and trying to subvert the 2020 presidential election. The MSNBC anchor was railing against those who disagree with Trump being left off of the Colorado ballot as its Supreme Court has ruled.

“These are the people that are now preaching about anti-democratic amendments to the Constitution of the United States as they fall on their fainting couches, and are triggered that somebody may actually apply the Constitution to the facts at hand on an insurrection that Donald Trump inspired, that he led, that he was responsible for,” Scarborough said. “And again, so many of these people are serving jail time, and Donald Trump’s not for one simple reason: Because unlike Donald Trump, they are not rich and powerful. So please spare me the anti-democratic lectures.”

Scarborough also reported on a YouGov America Poll that recorded a slight majority of respondents agreeing with the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision. The segment was filled with clips from Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot, which Scarborough described as “the most anti-democratic actions that were taken against the United States of America since Fort Sumter.”

The reference was to the Confederacy’s first attack against the United States when it fired on the military fort in South Carolina on April 12, 1861, sparking the four-year Civil War.

A similar rant happened on Morning Joe after Trump referred to Jan. 6 rioters as hostages during a rally in Houston last month. At the time, the reference was akin to the Israeli hostages who had been held captive for nearly a month at the time. Scarborough said the comparison was “deeply offensive.”
