John Kerry claims it’s ‘sort of ageism’ to criticize Biden for his age

Fellow octogenarian John Kerry defended President Joe Biden‘s age, claiming he has “done a brilliant job as president.”

Kerry serves in the Biden administration as the special presidential envoy for climate. CNN hosted the former presidential hopeful on The Amanpour Hour Saturday on the month of his 80th birthday.

“When you say to me, you know, I’m 80 years old. I don’t think about age. Honestly, I don’t,” Kerry said. “The other day, I said to my friends when we were gathered, I said, you know, at 80, I can do everything I used to do when I was 50, but I don’t remember what it is.”

Host Christiane Amanpour laughed along with Kerry before he clarified, “It’s funny; it’s not true, by the way.”

“So it must really tick you off all this stuff about Biden and his age,” Amanpour followed up.

“It does,” Kerry said. “I think that’s sort of an ageism. He’s done a brilliant job, I think, as president. He’s strengthened NATO. He’s been able to galvanize people around critical values that are at stake in Ukraine. Critical values.”

However, even Kerry addressed Biden’s decreased job approval. Some 61% of voters disapprove of Biden’s job performance, according to a Monmouth University poll.

“I don’t know what has happened to a lot of people who back away from that now because, at the cost of not persevering would be just extraordinary for the world,” Kerry said. “And I think he knows how the Congress works, he knows America, he also knows how the world works. That’s what you need today.”

Biden is currently the oldest sitting president at 81 and is in the middle of a reelection campaign. If he wins, he will be 86 at the end of his second term. Biden’s Democratic challengers are Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN), author Marianne Williamson, and YouTube news anchor Cenk Uygur.
