Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry appeared to lose his temper Tuesday after he was confronted about the size of his carbon footprint at the World Economic Forum.
“What’s the carbon footprint of these events every single year that you come here?” a reporter asked Kerry while the former secretary of state and ex-presidential candidate walked the streets of Davos, Switzerland.
“Do you think it’s worth it?” the reporter said. “Peasants pay for your crimes?”

“That’s a stupid question,” Kerry shot back, before a woman walking with him told the reporter to stop and pulled the man back.
“You can’t grab me. You can’t grab us,” the reporter said. “This is a free society, mate. We have freedom of the press.”
Undeterred, the reporter pushed on and asked Kerry where his true priorities lie.
“Why do you think you’re more important,” he asked Kerry. “Your carbon footprint doesn’t matter but everybody else around the world….”
“Just stay back,” Kerry answered. “Nobody ever suggested that. Don’t make up stupid questions.”
The fact that Kerry traveled to Davos for the WEF and has done so for years is what “suggests that,” the reporter said.
The woman who had grabbed him earlier returned and instructed him to stop again, and he once again asked her to stop touching him.
“We’re walking to the meeting. … Why are you working so hard to protect such a criminal?” the reporter asked as Kerry was whisked into a nearby building.

The WEF seeks every year to engage in “the foremost political, business and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas,” according to the meeting’s website, and 2024 could be Kerry’s last year.
Tuesday’s incident comes after widespread reports that the 80-year-old is exiting his role as the special presidential envoy for climate to assist President Joe Biden in his effort to be reelected.
