Johnson sends fundraising email refusing to ‘put people over politics’

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) sent an email this week in an effort to fundraise but grabbed attention for seemingly mistyping a common phrase.

“I refuse to put people over politics,” the email said in a bold, underlined font. “Which is why I need your help. Republicans have been tasked with getting this country back on track, but the clock is ticking. Can you step forward with a donation today?”

Johnson is fresh from his election to speaker of the House and proudly called himself the “next boogeyman” to the “liberal media” that are putting “Americans LAST,” claiming to be putting “Americans FIRST.”

The Washington Examiner reached out to Johnson’s office for clarification on the email.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jefferies (D-NY) poked fun at the email in a post to X, formerly Twitter.

This comes as the House of Representatives faces a deadline of Nov. 17 to fund the government due to the stopgap measure enacted previously by the chamber. Friday marked Johnson’s first week as speaker.

So far, the House passed two spending bills including a separate bill to fund Israel and its war against Hamas in Gaza. With these bills, the legislative branch as well as the Department of Interior, Department of Energy, and other related agencies will be funded.
