Jordan says Garland & Weiss were ‘definitely’ planning to cover up Hunter Biden’s tax evasion with ties to Joe Biden

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) said he believes both Attorney General Merrick Garland and special counsel David Weiss were “definitely” planning to cover up the investigation into Hunter Biden, a matter now part of an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.

The investigation into the president’s son has been a major focus on House Republicans, who are seeking to impeach the president over his connection to his son’s foreign business dealings. Jordan explained that Biden helped his son regarding Burisma, a company based in Ukraine, and that Biden had used “American tax dollars” to help his son.

“And then what does the Garland Justice Department do?” Jordan asked. “They try to sweep it under the rug, so much so that they allowed the statute of limitations to lapse for the most serious tax, felony tax concerns Hunter Biden had in 2014 and 2015. They let it lapse because those were the years that dealt with the Burisma income.”

Jordan, House Judiciary Committee Chairman, also stated that his committee would focus on these angles regarding Garland and Weiss, and that it would do its “constitutional duty” and “continue to dig” into this investigation into Hunter Biden.

Garland was grilled by the Judiciary Committee at a hearing on Wednesday regarding allegations that the Department of Justice mishandled its yearslong investigation into Hunter Biden. However, Garland repeatedly indicated he has stayed out of the investigation.

Weiss, meanwhile, has said he was never blocked from bringing charges in “any jurisdiction” and that he has always had all of the authority he needed in the case, with the exception of a procedural hurdle in which he would need to request “special attorney” status.

Jordan said that Weiss has agreed to appear in front of the committee “on October 18.”

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) has scheduled a hearing for Sept. 28 on the impeachment inquiry for Biden, which will examine the “constitutional and legal questions surrounding the president’s involvement in corruption and abuse of public office,” a committee spokesperson said. This date has been criticized by the White House, as a potential government shutdown looms ahead of the Sept. 30 deadline.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has stated that Hunter Biden will get subpoenaed in this investigation, but that he wants more evidence to percolate over the matter before calling on the younger Biden to testify before Congress.
