Actor turned hate hoax engineer Jussie Smollett is in rehab following an “extremely difficult” past few years, a representative for Smollett said.
“Jussie has had an extremely difficult past few years,” the representative said, according to a report. “He has quietly been working very hard for some time now and we are proud of him for taking these necessary steps.”

The move to rehab comes as the former Empire star continues his appeal in the Chicago criminal case relating to his 2019 hate hoax.
Smollett was convicted on five counts of felony disorderly conduct stemming from his fabrication of the hate crime, during which he alleged two supporters of former President Donald Trump attacked him and placed a noose around his neck.
Initially, Smollett was given a five-month prison sentence in Chicago’s Cook County Jail, but he was released shortly thereafter for his appeal, the release noted.

The conditions surrounding Smollett’s stint in rehab have not been confirmed.
However, drug use was mentioned more than once during his trial, and the men who claim Smollett hired to attack him stated they had been his dealers, according to the report.
