Two minors have been charged in connection to the shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs’s Super Bowl Championship rally on Wednesday that killed one and injured more than 20.
The juveniles, who have not been identified, were handed gun-related and resisting arrest charges on Thursday by the Office of the Juvenile Officer, according to the Circuit Court of Jackson County’s family division. The suspects are being held at a juvenile detention center.
“It is anticipated that additional charges are expected in the future as the investigation by the Kansas City Police Department continues,” the court said in a news release.
At around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, gunshots were heard, scattering attendees. Police said one woman was killed, and 21 people were injured in a number of minutes. The victims’ ages ranged from 8 years old to 47 years old, and Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves said around half of the victims were younger than 16.
Graves said on Thursday that several guns were recovered from the scene, and police were trying to determine whether anyone else was involved. Police arrested three people, two minors, in connection to the shooting on Wednesday.
The shooting does not have a “nexus of terrorism” or homegrown extremism, the chief said. She thanked people for stopping a person believed to be connected to the shooting by tackling them.
