White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre openly refused to call on a New York Post reporter Wednesday.
Jean-Pierre dismissed New York Post reporter Steve Nelson after he vocally took issue with her ignoring him for an extended period. The viral interaction showed Nelson interrupting Jean-Pierre as she looked for another reporter to call on.

“You haven’t called on me in two seasons, Karine,” Nelson said.
“And I’m not calling on you today,” Jean-Pierre quipped as she pointed to another reporter. “Go ahead.”
Nelson then proceeded to criticize her as disrespectful, speaking above the others in the room.
“You should be ashamed of that,” he said. “That shows disrespect to a free and independent media to blacklist one of our country’s largest and most widely read newspapers, Karine. That shows contempt for a free and independent press.”
Jean-Pierre responded by claiming she was calling on “somebody who I haven’t called on for a long time as well.”

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Nelson revealed that he had not been called on since May, while his outlet had not been granted a question since July.
The New York Post is known for its critical treatment of the Biden administration, likely resulting in the press secretary’s avoidance.
