White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre pointed to gas prices as a win for President Joe Biden.
Jean-Pierre took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to respond to an article surrounding gas prices. The national average is $3.12, according to AAA, a price that has been on the decline in the past month. It is also lower than it was a year ago. Yet, the price is still above the national average of April 2021 before prices rose above $3 per gallon for the first time since 2014, according to Gas Buddy.

“Gas prices are down $1.90 from their peak after Putin’s war—and there’s even more relief for Americans in the New Year,” Jean-Pierre wrote.
Jean-Pierre was referring to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022.
The highest-ever recorded average price per gallon of gas came in June 2022 at $5.02, which was just before the midterm elections. This last week saw a 6-cent increase in gas prices, which was the first time gas prices increased since September.
